Meet The Team - John Conway - Logistics Coordinator

Tell us about yourself

I’m John Conway, I joined Neurovalens in January 2018. I am the Logistics Coordinator. That job title involves processing headset orders, dispatching them and ensuring a successful delivery, however, my path at Neurovalens has a bit more to it than that. In 2018 when I found out about a position in a customer care role in a start-up company I was very interested but it wasn’t until I did a bit of research into the company that I got really excited. Neuroscience was a world that I had dreamt about working in and getting a job in that field was just perfect. I got the job in customer care and after working for a couple of years in that department I moved to the position of logistics coordinator and once we started the clinical trials my duties shifted again to assembling and testing headsets specifically for those trials. Moving between these duties has meant that I have got to work closely with all the different teams in the company.

I wasn’t too keen on school so as soon as my GCSE’s were done I went out looking for jobs. In hindsight I believe this was the right decision for me at that point of my life. I wanted to get out into the world and start working. My first job was in the marketing department of the Belfast Telegraph which was a great experience. After 4 year there I took a break and studied music for 2 years which is something I always wanted to do and I feel the break from school for four years helped me appreciate that a little more. Next, I joined a computer repair company which later turned into a technical courier company. At that job I had to organise shipments and plan and allocate jobs for our technicians and couriers. I was there for 10 years before joining Neurovalens.

What attracted you to join the Neurovalens team?

Joining Neurovalens was a no-brainer for me! I loved the idea of working for a company that was trying to help people. I also had an interest in the brain for as long as I can remember and one of my hobbies is reading books about the brain (well, whatever books I could find written for people who aren’t neuroscientists!) and after reading up about Jason and his background and what he was trying to achieve then getting this job was just perfect for me.

What motivates you in your work?

With some jobs it may be difficult to find motivation at times but at Neurovalens its easy. We have a great team who are like a family and all the work we do leads towards helping people with various conditions all of which can really impact their everyday life. Because we are a small company and everyone working there understands the roles of all the departments then it makes it very easy to see the results of what we are trying to do and that makes motivation very easy.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of work?

In my free time I like to listen to music, play music, read books about the brain (granted most of the information that goes in leaves by the nearest exit but its still fun) and watch detective shows.
